UCC is an ethnically diverse, non-denominational evangelical Christian church located in and around Finland’s capital region.

Who We Are

We are an evangelical Christian church, centered in the gospel of Jesus Christ, committed to the authority of the Bible, and shaped by our Reformation heritage.

As a church we are ethnically diverse having both Finns and about 30 nationalities calling UCC home.  Together we seek to be authentic in our faith and life as we seek to faithfully teach and practice the Bible. Our mission is to be a "community united in Christ on mission into all creation."

Core Convictions

United in Christ:

As a church we seek to understand who Christ is and what it means that we are ‘in Christ’ further.  The more we understand, the more His transforming work can take place in our lives.

United in Community:

Being united with Christ cannot be separated from being united with others who are united in Him.  In John 17:22-23, Jesus prays for unity among his people: “The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one...”.  The more we understand our vertical union with Christ the more we can understand our horizontal union.

United in Creation:

Another way of saying this is that we seek to be united in God’s mission with all creation.  The more we understand our union with Christ, and our union with others united in Him, the more we see the insignificance of our own plans and dreams compared to knowing and following God’s plan - to make Himself known and glorified in all creation.  Every Christian is uniquely positioned before a watching world to live a life transformed by Christ.

Vision

‘A community united in Christ on mission into all creation.’

The Gospel is the story of the Triune God re-uniting fallen humanity and creation through the election of the Father, the life, death and resurrection of Christ, culminating in his imminent return, and the power of the Spirit – to the glory of God.  This message deeply shapes everything we do at UCC and it is our vision to let the Gospel direct, shape, and mold all our community, ministry and activity.

Our Name

United.  Though there are not many who would use the words ‘united’ and ‘church’ in the same sentence today – perhaps quite the opposite! – we believe that the very core of the Christian faith is a person becoming united to God through faith in Jesus Christ. This is also known as union with Christ, and is one of the most central doctrines of the Christian faith.  Theologian John Owen regarded the doctrine in this way:

This is the cause of all other graces that we are made partakers of; they are all communicated unto us by virtue of our union with Christ. Hence is our adoption, our justification, our sanctification, our fruitfulness, our perseverance, our resurrection, our glory.

If Owen is right, and we believe that he is, then everything in our Christian life past, present, and future flows from the Christian’s union with Christ.  All the promises and blessings of God are made available to us because Jesus Christ the Son of God came into the world, lived, ministered, died, rose again, and sent His Spirit, which unites us in faith to Himself in an eternal relationship based on His work and not ours. Everything at United Community Church is based on the work of Jesus Christ and our union with Him – hence the name.
